Dancer/Actor Alex Meraz took part in the upcoming five-part television series "WE SHALL REMAIN: AMERICAN EXPERIENCE" as a WARRIOR in the episodes "AFTER THE MAYFLOWER" and "TECUMSEH" (episodes 1 & 2 respectively) . It will air On KCET-PBS on Monday, April 13, 2009, 9:00 pm (check your local listings). Though, his role might be minor spotting him will be like a game of Where's Waldo regardless I thought you guys might enjoy a dose of history watching this groundbreaking mini-series project that establishes American history through the perspective of the Native American eyes. Each of the episodes focuses on important historical events and concludes with a short contemporary story that links the past to the present. Don't you just love PBS I can't wait to watch it.

Interview casting director Rene Haynes on Wolf cast

Brought to you by Celebuzz With last week's announcement of the New Moon wolf pack marked the beginning of frenzied fan-site activity by the Twilight nation for the five Native American actors chosen for the part.

"These kids are kids whose life is going to change," casting director Rene Haynes tells Celebuzz in an exclusive interview. "They are now stars." Haynes handled the Native American casting for the Twilight sequel. Her final wolf pack choices include Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman. "They are all good kids," says Rene. "They have good heads on their shoulders. I think they'll navigate these waters the best they can." There was also open auditions, including one in Vancouver which brought out thousands of hopefuls. Houseman was the lucky attendee who not only auditioned on that day, but also earned a part. "Every single aspect was successful," says Haynes. It was crucial to Haynes — who specializes in Native American casting − that each of the characters chosen was of Native American descent. "It was important to the filmmakers," says Haynes. 'That is why they hired me. And that was my job." Perhaps the hardest choice was that of casting Spencer. While Haynes declines to say what part the actor was cast for, fan sites have speculated Spencer is set for the part of Sam - a pivotal wolf pack leader who plays a prominent role in future installments. "He's someone I feel is going to be a star," says Haynes. "I have cast him before. He's always done lovely work. It's awesome to know that it's time for this young actor to have a great breakout role like this." It wasn't a sure thing when Spencer auditioned, even after meeting casting director Joseph Middleton in NY for a powerful reading. "It was a very long process," says Haynes, pointing out there were many strong candidates for the part. "It was up and down, up and down. But he floated to the top." She's now sure she's found her man. Spencer is an experienced veteran who has worked with Haynes on a number of projects. "He's an emerging young actor who has paid his dues," says Haynes. "This isn't just someone we picked off the street. He's studied and ready for this." Another choice receiving a lot of buzz in the Vancouver shooting is Meraz. Haynes can see the appeal. "Alex is a professional dancer," she says. "He is definitely a rising star in the Native American community." While all the actors are studly, the big question is, are they as studly as the bulked-up leader Taylor Lautner? "All the roles require a lot of physicality," Haynes assures us. "They're all quite fit."

Summit Confirms Wolf Pack Cast for New Moon!!!

Summit has issued a press release confirming the wolf pack cast!!!

Los Angeles, CA — March 23, 2009 — Summit Entertainment announced today that Native American/First Nation actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman have signed on to star as the members of the wolf pack in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON. In the film, the wolf pack defends humans against vampires although they have a tribal history intricately entwined with Edward Cullen and his family. The wolf pack members will join Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and fellow wolf pack member Taylor Lautner in the film directed by Chris Weitz which will be released domestically November 20, 2009.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

Each member of the wolf pack is of Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree. Casting of the wolf pack was overseen by award-winning casting director Rene Haynes who is well-known for her work on Native projects ranging from DANCES WITH WOLVES to BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE.

Hell-OH Alex Meraz. He plays Paul in New Moon – here he is photographed on the weekend in Vancouver. Hot. SO hot. Alex was overheard telling people that he’ll be the “bad wolf” in the movie. Bad is good. Bad works for me. Also attached – Taylor Lautner and his flawless skin (how is skin like this possible???) enjoyed a beautiful sunny break in the day. Vancouver is spectacular when it’s not raining. Just… it rains a LOT. Anyway, Taylor and Kristen were running lines all weekend, prepping to begin shooting in earnest this week. Robert Pattinson was running lines on Sunday too for a few hours. He has however for the most part shut himself in when not working out, apparently hasn’t ventured out much, prefers to be alone, politely declines invitations to go out, either getting into character or perhaps frightened by the loser twi-hards who’ve descended upon Vancouver to hunt him down? Twilight is boosting tourism!

Alex's first movie role was in The New World in 2005. Since then, he has appeared in a string of Native American-themed TV shows and movies, and now he has gotten his big break with New Moon. Hot Native American Alex Meraz is one of The Wolf Pack. The 24-year-old Meraz will join cast members Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in the sequel to be directed by Chris Weitz for a November 2009 release.
